Interbellum (Lebanon)
folk / noise / ambient
Launched in 2015 by Lebanese singer-songwriter Karl Mattar, Interbellum blends melodic folk rock songs with sonic experimentation. The project released its third album “Our House Is Very Beautiful at Night” in April 2023, described as “a beautiful and frequently head-spinning indie-folk-rock-noise record, encompassing everything from charming and straightforward pop rock to acoustic folk songs to fuzzy, layered psychedelia” (Rosy Overdrive). The album explores the notion of ghosts as intergenerational trauma, on a personal and collective level. Its 15 tracks deal with memory, time and the past, casting intimate trauma as a microcosm of Lebanon’s unending cycles of violence, unearthing the crypts where memories and postmemories lie buried.
Visiting Anti for the penultimate show on his Scandinavian solo tour, Interbellum will be performing a mix of songs & ambient/experimental music. Entrance is free of charge (optional & recommended donation to the artist).
